2. Relationship between An Organ and The
Background Organs
Next, in order to understand more closely the importance of the relationship between an organ and the background organs, let us also analyze how a tissue causes swelling change. This analysis will enable us to understand clearly that a tissue cannot cause any changes without the relationship to the background tissues.
(a) Outbreak Process of Swelling Change
Theoretically, swelling change can be considered to occur through the following process. When a tissue raises the momentum relatively to the background tissue, it also raises the energy density compared with the background tissue; simultaneously, it causes the imbalance in energy density with the background tissue. Then the tissue causes, by increasing the volume, swelling change in order to neutralize the imbalance in energy density between itself and the background tissue. |

(b) Theoretical Meaning of Swelling Change
This process explains clearly that a tissue cannot cause swelling change without the existence of the background tissues. The fundamental cause of swelling change is due to the relative difference in energy density between a tissue and the background tissues. Thus, when both a tissue and the background tissues change their momenta equally and simultaneously, the tissue cannot cause swelling change. In short, even swelling change, which is one of representative phenomena seen in a tissue with acute inflammation, occurs on the basis of the relationship between a tissue and the background tissue. Keep in your mind that a tissue always balances itself with the background tissue, and causes disease on the basis of the balance with the background tissue. |

(c) Theoretical Meaning of Atrophic Change
Notice that a tissue causes atrophic change on the basis of the opposite mechanism to swelling change. When a tissue decreases the momentum, it also decreases the energy density. Then the tissue causes the imbalance in energy density with the background field. To neutralize the imbalance in energy density, the tissue, by becoming atrophied, raises the energy density. As seen in this process, like as swelling change, atrophic change also occurs on the relationship between a tissue and the background field. |
